Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We never have. There is no list of your details for sale anywhere and there is no arrangement under which anyone pays us for them.

That sentence is where most companies stop, and stopping there would be misleading, because several state privacy laws define "sell" and "share" more broadly than money changing hands. So here is the full answer.

1. The one thing that might count

We advertise on Facebook and Instagram. To find out whether those ads work, we send Meta a record of what happens on this site: page views, form submissions, and a hashed version of your name, email and phone number if you gave them to us. Your IP address and browser user-agent go unhashed, because Meta's specification requires it.

That is cross-context behavioral advertising. California calls it "sharing". Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas and the rest call it "targeted advertising". Under some readings it is close enough to a "sale" that arguing about the label would be a waste of your time and ours.

So rather than argue: you can turn it off, and we will not ask you why. The full description of how the tracking works is in section 4 of our Privacy Policy, including the parts that are usually left unsaid.

2. Opt out right now

Checking what your browser is telling us…

If your browser is not sending a signal, the button below sets a preference on this device that tells us not to share your information for advertising. It takes effect immediately, no account and no verification needed.

A limit you should know about. A device preference lives in this browser. It does not follow you to your phone, and it disappears if you clear your cookies. If you want us to suppress you properly and permanently, email us. That is the option that actually sticks, and it is in the next section.

3. The other two ways to opt out

Email us. This is the most reliable option. Send anything at all to team@impactranks.com and say you want to opt out. You do not need to prove who you are, you do not need an account with us, and you do not need to use any particular wording. We suppress you at the source, across every device, and it does not expire.

Use a browser signal. If your browser or an extension sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a valid opt-out request for that browser and we honor it without you doing anything else. Several browsers and privacy extensions send it by default. You can find out how at globalprivacycontrol.org.

Use the industry tools. optout.aboutads.info and networkadvertising.org/choices let you opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies, including Meta and Google. You can also change your ad settings inside Facebook and Instagram directly.

4. What happens after you opt out

Opting out of advertising sharing is not the same thing as opting out of text messages, and it is not the same thing as asking us to delete your data. Those are separate and equally easy: reply STOP to any text, or use the privacy request page.

5. If someone is doing this for you

You can use an authorised agent, and we will accept a request from one. We may ask the agent for written permission signed by you, and we may check with you directly that you asked for it, unless the agent holds a power of attorney. We will not make you resubmit the request yourself once the agent's authority is established. In practice, for something as low-risk as an advertising opt-out, we will usually just honor it.

6. Who this applies to

Everyone. Most of the comprehensive state privacy statutes do not currently apply to a business our size, and we are not going to pretend otherwise on a page about honesty. We give you this right anyway, in every state, because deciding whether to respect someone's preference based on their ZIP code would be a strange way to run a company.

If you are a client of ours rather than a visitor, note that this page is about your information. Your customers' information is governed by the Data Processing Addendum, and under section 4 of that document we are already barred from selling or sharing it at all.

Questions, or a request that does not fit any of the boxes above: team@impactranks.com. A person reads it.
